People sometimes ask why we call ourselves The “Dirty” Doors.
There are a few reasons we chose this name:
- Ray Manzarek and John Densmore of The Doors have both referred to their band as “the dirty Doors” in various books and interviews. This was in reference to the way the band was viewed by the “establishment” in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
- Our band is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and Atlanta is sometimes referred to as “the dirty south.”
- We are a tribute band, so what we do isn’t perfect. It’s a little “dirty.”
- Jim Morrison got the name for The Doors from a quote by English poet William Blake: “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.” Before things are cleansed, they are dirty.
